ghost without an assigned numerical value is a reconstructed deconstruction of the last piano work of Robert Schumann, composed in 1854: Die Geistervariationen (Ghost Variations) โ Thema mit Variationen in Es‑Dur für Klavier (Theme and Variations in E‑flat Major for Piano) โ Werke ohne Opuszahl (Works without Opus Number) 24.
Wolf‑Dieter Seiffert: “…that at this time of his life, Schumann believed that he was surrounded by spirits who played him music, both ‘wonderful’ and ‘hideous’.”
Nicholas Marston: “Clara recorded in her diary that not long after they had gone to bed on 17 February 1854, ‘Robert got up again and wrote out a theme which he said angels had sung to him.’ The angels’ voices would subsequently turn to those of demons, and in the coming days this alternation of good and bad spirits would not leave him. He told a later visitor, Ruppert Becker, that Schubert had appeared to him and dictated the theme. Even so, in the ten days or so following the first vision he was able to work with enormous concentration on a series of five variations on this beguiling theme…”

We started an audio project back in 2006. We worked on it at irregular intervals until it finally ended up forgotten in a box. Sometime during the pandemic, the box was found and opened. The project is now finished. It is our corrupted, distorted, and malfunctioning take on a “number opera” (Italian: opera a numeri; German: nummeroper).
Oh, are you still reading this drivel? Looking for Easter eggs? Well, here are the boring parts, since you seem like the kind of human who probably likes to read user manuals.
